A Ballyfermot Road Southwest Campus Project

From Ideas to Impact: The Erasmus+ Entrepreneurial Bootcamp at Ballyfermot College

A Week of Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainable Entrepreneurship!

From November 5–8, 2024, Ballyfermot College of Further Education came alive with the buzz of ideas, teamwork, and creative energy as students and teachers from Ireland and Finland joined forces for an intensive Erasmus+ Entrepreneurial Bootcamp

Led by visiting Finnish experts, Sari Erätuli (Business College Helsinki) and Petri Tapani Saarinen (StartNorth), this two week programme offered a deep dive into entrepreneurship, design thinking, and sustainable business practices.

Building Entrepreneurs, Not Just Projects

The bootcamp was structured into 12 dynamic modules, each focusing on a vital piece of the entrepreneurial journey:

  • From business idea generation and team formation
  • To observing the market and identifying real-world problems
  • To building and testing prototypes (MVP)
  • And finally, embedding sustainability and pitching ideas with a flair akin to Shark Tank

Throughout the bootcamp, participants learned to innovate, adapt, and think critically about the economic, environmental, and social impacts of their ideas.

A Hands On, Real World Experience

Each day brought new challenges and breakthroughs:

  • Students practiced business model canvas construction, gaining a handson understanding of how to turn ideas into viable ventures.
  • They conducted customer interviews and refined their concepts based on feedback.
  • An excursion to Amazon in Belfast offered insight into global enterprise and operational excellence.
  • The final days were dedicated to making presentations for a “Shark Tank”style review, where ideas were critiqued, refined, and celebrated.

A True Exchange of Culture and Expertise

More than just a bootcamp, this was an enriching cultural experience. Finnish and Irish teaching staff exchanged methods, pedagogies, and best practices in entrepreneurship education. Students learned from diverse perspectives, built connections across borders, and strengthened their teamwork and communication abilities.

Sustainability at Its Core

A central theme throughout the bootcamp was sustainability. Students learned how to embed environmental and social responsibility into every step of their entrepreneurial ventures — making sure their ideas were not only viable but also values driven and future focused

The Final Pitch

The bootcamp culminated with an energetic “Shark Tank”style pitch session. Students presented their ideas to the invited experts and teaching staff, gaining constructive feedback and selecting a winner. The passion and professionalism demonstrated by participants spoke volumes about the benefits of experiential, collaborative learning.

The Impact

Through the Erasmus+ Entrepreneurial Bootcamp, students:

  • Developed innovative ideas and learned to transform them into actionable business plans.
  • Gained hands on experience with the Business Model Canvas and rapid prototyping.
  • Improved their teamwork, communication, and intercultural collaboration
  • Created connections between Ireland and Finland, making the most of international learning and partnership opportunities.

The college is proud to have hosted such an enriching programme. Together with our Finnish partners, we’ve fostered a space where ideas can flourish, friendships can form, and future entrepreneurs can hone their craft.

Here’s to more collaborations, more innovation, and more moments that inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs!
