Mobility Advice

Advice for Students Starting Their Erasmus+ Mobility Abroad

General Tips

Give Yourself Time to Settle In

Don’t worry if everything feels unfamiliar at first – this is normal!

Allow yourself a few days to adjust to your new surroundings, routines, and local culture.

Avoid making early judgments about your host country – differences are part of the learning experience.

Stay open-minded and positive. What seems strange at first may soon become your new favourite part of life abroad.

If you’re feeling homesick or struggling personally, speak to a peer on mobility, accompanying teacher, or someone in the host organisation for support.

Stay in Regular Contact with Peers and the College

Keep checking your email while abroad – this will be our main way of reaching you.

Once you arrive, find out who your point of contact is in the host company or organisation. The accompanying teacher will assist you with this.

If any problems arise, get in touch with the accompanying teacher or college Erasmus coordinator.

Look After Your Personal Safety

You should take the same precautions you would at home

If you’re in serious difficulty and can’t access money or documents, contact the Erasmus+ coordinator who will assist you in contacting the embassy.

If something is lost or stolen, report it to the local police.

Lost your passport or bank card? Contact your bank and the Irish Embassy or Consulate for help.

If you’re in serious difficulty and can’t access money or documents, the embassy can assist you.

Remember You’re Representing the College

While abroad, you are not just a student – you’re also an ambassador for the college and for Ireland.

Always act respectfully and professionally.

Follow the policies and code of conduct of both your host organisation and the college.

Treat your placement as you would a job – show commitment, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Don’t take our word for it…

All students are encouraged and if taking part in a mobility required to complete the feedback questionnaire in addition to the questionnaire from the EU Commission.

Categories of Students Feedback

  1. Questions Prior to Submitting an Application
  2. Erasmus+ Applicant (Application Already Submitted)
  3. Pre-Mobility Students (Students who have attained a place on a mobility)
  4. Post-Mobility Students (All post-mobility students must complete this form)

The purpose of this feedback form is to help the college ascertain students’ thoughts and questions at pre-application, pre-selection, pre-mobility and more importantly gather feedback from students on the knowledge and skills acquired, which will assist in post-mobility dissemination to the college community.
