In June 2025, a group of creative media, game design, and animation students from City of Dublin FET College, Ballyfermot Road, Southwest Campus, travelled to Helsinki for an amazing learning experience. The trip gave us a chance to connect with industry professionals, hone our craft, and gain fresh insights into our chosen fields.
The creative media and game design students teamed up with employer Valtteri Leitola to work on an exciting eRacing track project set to launch at Ballyfermot College in early September 2025. This initiative is part of the eRacing Super League, an initiative we’re really proud to be part of. The experience was a deep dive into the world of racing games and gave us a taste of the collaborative process required to bring a project from concept to reality.
Meanwhile, the animation students worked with entrepreneur Petri Saarinen, focusing on refining their animation skills. We visited the Helsinki Zoo, where we practiced live drawing, capturing the movement and character of the animals we observed. We also participated in a street art workshop and met with a range of creative professionals from Helsinki. These encounters inspired us, providing valuable insights into different animation styles and techniques.
This trip was more than just a learning experience — it was an adventure that brought our group closer together and ignited our passions. We returned to Dublin feeling inspired, motivated, and eager to apply these new skills and ideas to our future projects at Ballyfermot College. We can’t wait to see how this experience will shape the work we create in the coming year!
