Students from the Radio, Podcasting & Presenting Media Course at City of Dublin FET Ballyfermot Campus in Dublin took centre stage at Talk Radio Europe in Marbella as part of their Erasmus+ work placement—an experience that provided a unique dive into pan-European and global talk broadcasting.
Unlike traditional music radio, Talk Radio Europe is Spain’s only English-language full talk radio station, with programming focused on European affairs, global current events, interviews, and in-depth analysis. Students participated in daily editorial meetings, conducted research, and contributed content to live talk segments and the station’s flagship breakfast show.
This immersive experience exposed the students to real-time journalism, political discourse, and responsible media production. Their time at TRE highlighted the core Erasmus+ values: active citizenship, inclusion, tolerance, and cross-cultural engagement. By participating in conversations that spanned borders, they learned how to inform and connect with a diverse European audience.
Working with professional journalists, editors, and producers, the students developed their communication, critical thinking, and media literacy skills. They returned to Ireland empowered—not just with radio experience, but with a broadened worldview and the confidence to contribute meaningfully to the future of European media.
This Erasmus+ placement has been a transformative step in their academic and career journeys, proving that talk radio is more than conversation—it’s connection, collaboration, and a platform for the values that shape Europe.
